Chris Martin's "Cross-Over Trick" ✍️🎸
If you look closely at the boards Chris Martin uses in concerts, how he draws, or even which hand he usually holds the microphone with, you'll notice something very clear: Chris is left-handed! He writes and performs almost all his daily tasks with his left hand.
However, here comes the real mystery for the most observant eyes: when Chris straps on a guitar on stage, he plays it exactly like a right-handed guitarist.
Why is this so surprising?
Learning to play a musical instrument from scratch using your non-dominant hand is an enormous mental and coordination challenge. Chris got used to using standard right-handed guitars from a very young age and, over the years, his brain developed an incredible "cross-over" skill.
So next time you watch the music video for Yellow or a live performance of Fix You, take a close look: you are watching a natural-born lefty playing the guitar the opposite way his nature would dictate. A true brain split by music!
And you, how is your coordination? If you are left-handed, have you ever tried playing or writing like a righty (or vice versa)?
