Will Champion
The drummer who didn't know how to play the drums.
Although he is considered Coldplay's human metronome today, the truth is that Will was not a drummer when he joined the band.
Multi-instrumentalist by nature: Before Coldplay, Will was an expert at playing the piano, guitar, and bass (and even the tin whistle, an Irish flute).
The ultimatum: When Chris, Jonny, and Guy were looking for a drummer, Will volunteered for the position despite never having played a drum kit in his life. He learned to play the instrument in just a few days so he could audition and stay in the group.
The "judge" of the band: Despite being the last to arrive, his bandmates call him "the anchor." Chris Martin has confessed that Will is the band's toughest critic; if Will doesn't like a melody or thinks a song is weak, they usually discard it immediately.
Extra fact: He is a language genius: In addition to his musical talent, Will has an incredible knack for languages; he speaks Spanish quite fluently, which allows him to connect deeply with fans during tours across Latin America and Spain.
